Special sergeant kidnapped in Lice released

A special sergeant who was kidnapped by suspected members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) on Friday has been released.
According to reports, Yetkin Beğen was released on Tuesday in the Hazro district of the southeastern province of Diyarbakır.
Beğen was driving his car on Friday when he was stopped at an ID checkpoint set up by a group of masked people suspected to be PKK members on the highway between Diyarbakır and Bingöl. He was then kidnapped following an argument with the members of the group.
The abduction of the officer came hours after clashes between security forces and protesters opposing the construction of a gendarmerie outpost in the village of Kayacık in Diyarbakır's Lice district that left one dead and nine injured.
The Diyarbakır Governor's Office later linked the officer's abduction to the protests at the outpost.
